Damir Faktor (1960) learned silver/goldsmithing and the intricacies of the craft in Amsterdam from Mr. Jaap de Vries, a master goldsmith and sculptor.
“I’m interested in exploring the interaction between geometric and organic forms in precious metals, ebony wood, and other materials. Designing and making jewelry that combines these forms is an exciting and creative process. The use of silver, wood, and gemstones provides a range of textures and colors to create unique pieces.
Once I have a rough design in mind, I start working on the individual elements, cutting and shaping silver or wood, setting gemstones, and polishing each piece. Throughout the process, I pay close attention to detail, ensuring a high-quality result. The final piece is one-of-a-kind, showcasing the beauty of both geometric and organic forms, and can be cherished for years to come.”
Karmela Faktor studied Visual Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (1992-1997).
Post-graduation, I explored various artistic mediums, including sculpting, mixed media, installations, and digital projects.
Since 2014, health challenges have compelled me to reassess my ambitious professional goals.
In response, I have continually explored new forms of expression, which led me to discover the captivating world of glass beads.
This discovery ignited an unexpected fascination with their rich history, traditional techniques, and the innovative work of modern artists.
I now experiment with integrating beadwork into my contemporary art practice, focusing on beaded and mixed media jewelry as well as small, non-wearable art pieces.
